For procedures started within the deadline, it is important to distinguish between:
An application already submitted must be distinguished from an appointment validly requested within the deadline. The 2024 instruction permits later submission in the circumstances it specifies, provided there is valid proof and the competent officeโs procedure is followed. An email or an old reference alone is not enough to establish that those circumstances apply.
Verify the appointment request receipt and the responsible office.
Documents and Communications
It is advisable to keep a complete record of your application.
Documents still required should be identified by their purpose; locating a certificate does not, by itself, establish a right to citizenship.
Application follow-up in Panama
In June 2026, the Embassy of Spain in Panama issued guidance on notifications and asked applicants to avoid emails and calls requesting status updates. Its later notices should be checked. A current decision date cannot be inferred from processing information published months earlier.
